The Socorro Adult Activity Cooperative is a day habilitation program providing therapeutic group activities in the areas of social skill development, communication, leisure, recreation, education, creative expression, and community inclusion. The program provides these services to adults fifty- five years of age and older. Eighty percent of the funding is designated for persons assessed “at risk”. The program is funded through a grant from Children Youth and Family Services Department, and is a no cost service.
The center based programming is conducted in an old adobe home located at 514 Park Street in the City of Socorro. A maximum of six persons attend each day, with two staff to facilitate group activities and assist members with the daily flow of events and interactions.
The Socorro Adult Activity Cooperative (SAAC) encourages family member and caregiver to take part in center activities through volunteerism. Family involvement is a one of the key elements of cooperative care giving, which provides opportunities for communication, education and family centered services. The center offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers to participate in center and community based therapeutic and recreational activities.
SAAC conducts programming 215 days a year. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 9:30-2:00 PM. Transportation is provided to and from the center, and for all community outings.
